HAZEL FISCHER ELEMENTARY

VISION STATEMENT

Hazel Fischer School will be recognized as a leading elementary school in the state of California. Hazel Fischer School will be a student-centered school committed to creating positive, confident and contributing students in our diverse and changing world. Our staff will incorporate unified and powerful research based approaches to teach our students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The staff's high expectations of their students will be exhibited in their awareness and daily use of state standards. Each staff member will show continuous growth in their enthusiasm and commitment towards improving their teaching practice. Children will be fully engaged and actively participating in the learning environment that best meets their needs. This will be done by working to meet and exceed the varied educational needs of our community; in the standard classroom setting, in the home schooling environment and other non traditional learning environments. This will be done by exposing students to a variety of instructional methodologies that incorporate technology, foreign language, as well as an innovative after school visual and performing arts program.

Children will master their personal potential as an enthusiastic life long reader and writer. This will be done by providing in class and after school intervention and enrichment programs that are coordinated between and continuous through each grade level. These programs are based on a low teacher to student ratio. Motivational reading programs will be used to increase the quantity and quality of reading time for all students. Students will apply their reading and writing skills to real world projects and issues that become personally meaningful.

Each child will be encouraged to become a conscientious and caring student who is accountable to its environment and community. They will recognize and honor global diversity and work cooperatively with others to make informed decisions for themselves and as a member of a working and community team throughout their life.

This will be done by providing students opportunities for service learning within our local community. Teachers will work collaboratively, providing hands on learning experiences that use problem solving and project based activities. Each student will learn about their environment and gain respect, perspective and responsibility toward caring caring for our unique environment.
